Every designer knows the quiet frustrations that come with a sectional. The one that photographs beautifully and sits too deep for half the people who use it. The corner that looks generous on the plan and seats exactly one person in real life. The seam that lands right where two people are meant to sit. The search for a pet-friendly fabric that can stand up to both cat claws and dirty puppy feet.
We know those frustrations well — MOOD came out of the same kinds of projects you work in every day. There are a lot of sectionals we love, for a lot of reasons. MOOD exists because we kept looking for one that solved a specific set of things our clients and projects were calling for, and couldn't find it on the market in a single sectional. So we designed it. Here are the problems it solves, and the design thinking behind each one.
One system, not one layout
Most sectionals are built around a single configuration. You choose the shape, and that choice tends to lock the piece into one room and one use. MOOD is a modular system instead — left arm, armless, ottoman, Cuddle Corner, right arm, and integrated side table modules that work alone or connect into a larger layout. That lets you scale the seating to the room, the people, and the way the space actually gets used, rather than fitting the room around a fixed footprint.
Comfort designed for real bodies
Comfort is where a lot of the design thought went, because "comfortable" isn't one thing — it shifts with every body that uses the room. MOOD sits at a 17-inch seat height and a 22-inch arm height, with a 24-inch seat depth without the lumbar cushion and 18 inches with it, so you can tune the same piece from a structured, upright sit to a deeper lounge. It's a medium cushion with polyester fibre-down top and bottom. That's the detail you can put in front of a client who cares about comfort but still wants the room to read elevated.
Generous modules — no sitting on the seam
The two-cushion sectional has a well-known weak spot: it technically seats two, but the middle becomes a seam nobody wants to sit on. We designed MOOD's modules generously enough that each one comfortably holds two people, so the footprint gives you real, usable capacity instead of theoretical numbers. In a home, a lobby, or an amenity space, that's the difference between seating five and quietly seating ten in the same square footage.
A corner that seats two, not one
In most sectionals the corner is prime real estate that functions as a single seat. The Cuddle Corner was designed to make that corner work harder — it seats two comfortably instead of one. It's a true curl-up moment in a residence, and in hospitality or shared spaces, a way to let a layout face more than one direction or connect two zones. A small design decision with an outsized effect on how the whole piece works.
A surface built into the system
Once a sectional is in, there's often nowhere to set a drink, a book, or a laptop without adding another loose table. MOOD's integrated side table lives inside the modular layout, so the seating supports how people actually use a lounge without extra furniture crowding a clean plan.
Performance fabric for real life
The fabric decision is never only about colour — it decides durability, cleaning, and how confident you feel handing the room back to a client. MOOD is wrapped in a 100% polyester performance upholstery with a soft, textured hand. The cover fabric is rated to 60,000 Martindale rubs (the lumbar fabric to 50,000) and has passed California Technical Bulletin 117-2013 (2019) smolder-resistance testing through SGS. It's built for real life — homes with pets, hospitality traffic, busy family rooms — while still feeling refined. Current colourways are Featherstone, Pebble Grey, and Cashmere Stone, with custom availability on larger orders.
